Bold & Bright

The manager of outreach for USA Health, Ashton Creel Hennig stays busy at her job where she represents both USA Children’s & Women’s and University Hospital. As a dancer for most of her life at Creative Dance Center at UMS-Wright, Ashton naturally got involved with Mobile Ballet after she was chosen as one of their debutantes in The Nutcracker Charity Ball in 2013. After a last-minute switch up, Matthew Hennig served as her debutante escort, and the pair immediately hit it off. “Our first official date was the ball rehearsal,” Ashton jokes. Fast-forward three years, and Ashton and Matthew tied the knot, Ashton wearing a veil made from her mother’s. Since the Charity Ball holds such a special place in her heart, Ashton spends her time volunteering with the event and was recently voted on the board of Mobile Ballet. “Becky Tate, a board member of Mobile Ballet, was one of my mentors at work and she asked me if I would help with the ball last year,” Ashton explains. “I was on the ball committee and my husband’s sister was a Deb, so it was so much fun! I am on the ball committee again this year and was asked to join the board. I am honored to be on the board and help to support an art that I loved so much growing up. I also love that Mobile Ballet is a non-profit that supports other non-profits through the Charity Ball,” Ashton says.

As for fashion, Ashton likes to keep her look classic and trendy, sharing that some of her favorite brands are Joie and Shoshanna for fun dresses, and J. Crew and Theory for a classic and tailored work look. “I like to have some really great classic staples in my wardrobe and then add something trendy to complete the outfit,” she says. Ashton credits her mom as her own style icon, saying since she holds a degree in fashion merchandising, her mom has shopped for Ashton her whole life. “She always pushes me to wear something bold and different,” Ashton says. “My mom loves classic and timeless items and then will pair something trendy on top. I am lucky because she passes down many of her clothes to me!” One such item is an heirloom mink coat that Ashton pulls out every Mardi Gras season or during a chilly trip up North. Ashton loves living in her hometown of Mobile with her husband and their fur child, Theo, a mini Bernedoodle. You can catch Ashton and her family always on the water, fishing, boating, or just sitting on the dock at her parents’ Fowl River house or her in-laws’ Bay house.
